2008-07-19 - Stephanie Meyers Twilight Series

The series of books that I have ordered are captivating and I get so involved with the story line that I become part of the story. I cannot wait to acquire the next book and begin another journey with this author and the characters in the books.

2008-07-18 - liked it a lot, didn't love it...

I missed Edward. LOVED Twilight. LOVED Bella & Edward & with New Moon I found myself speeding through the book to find out when & how Edward returns.I liked this book but it was missing something...(vampires). I did read the ending twice because I loved the conversation between Bella & Edward.

2008-07-17 - Awesome!

I usually never read books, but my wife got me started on it and the next thing I knew I'd read the whole saga!

It is by far the best Vampire story ever. It's not freakish, scary, or horrific. Forget Dracula, Blade, or anything else you've ever learned or seen with Vampires. She puts a new spin on the whole thing and does a real good job (especially the part about being in the sunlight). I'd give more details, but that would mean providing spoiler's, and I'm not about to do that. :)

2008-07-17 - Let Down

After Twilight, I had hoped for a better sequel. I compared the first book to Buffy and Angel, but the second is a much better comparison to the Olivia Hussey version of Romeo and Juliet. (good job here Ms Meyer with recognizing that fact) Funny, now in my mid forties, I struggle with watching those old films and how weak and dependant the women are portrayed. (I'll take Clair Danes' Juliet anytime)

"New Moon" certainly satisfied my need to get through the series and figure out the ultimate answer-does Bella get turned. I myself however, am much more partial to Joss Whedon's "will Buffy and Angel ever do it again." Joss was extremely careful to ensure Buffy remained strong and in control and a model of the women we all want to be. Ms Meyer, instead chose to portray Bella like the sappy weepy side that we all have inside of us. Like all women, I can certainly relate to that hopeless and helpless feeling that follows a break up. But four months of near catatonia, be real. Was Ms Meyer just appealing to that "Jerry Springer" mentality where masses of Americans have to watch those worse off than ourselves?

I would be tempted to give this book 3 stars just because I did enjoy reading it and who wouldn't feel for the loyal Jacob. (canine is certainly an apt symbol). But my undeniable feminist side cannot believe that this is the type of literature our girls should be gaga over. I really can't find any redeeming qualities with this book, other than the fact that I found it addictive. Ms Meyers quick simple writing style makes it easy to stay engaged and complete the book on one cup of coffee.

2008-07-17 - New Moon, new loves, new complications, new adventures

Stephanie Meyer has done it again producing a story built around characters complex enough to be truly human even though many are not. The plot trucks and motorcycles down a different road as an old love disappears through most of the book, yielding center stage to a newly developing relationship between Bella and Jacob Black. Though Edward's presence is missing in Bella's life, he is never that far away from her heart or the mind of the reader. Ms. Meyer has made sure of that. This is a great story to sink your teeth into,
